Really not sure about this
crossing, just a little apprehensive as I dragged myself out of
bed at 0730hrs. I jumped on my bike and had a cycle along
the pier to asses the sea state. It actually looked OK for
once so looks like we were on.
I would like to say all onboard
were full of the joys of spring but we all knew that this
crossing just had to be done to get us back to the UK.
Another trip to pick up supplies and cigs, the bikes and
cushions securely stowed in the crew cabin, all fenders out of
holders and inboard and we were set.
We left the harbour to a
refreshing sea state and pushed on in a north easterly
direction. For once the trip was pleasant and soon we were
in an almost smooth sea with the sun shining...ah at
last...pleasure cruising :-)
Shifts at the helm took us up
to just South of Calais where we informed Dover Coast Guard of
our intention to cross the traffic zone. Even with AIS
we came within a Nautical Mile of a ferry but unless he was
about to drastically change course then no worries or concerns
here.
Once across the channel we
were just under an hour from Ramsgate, with a tidal push
and the wind in our favour we had a comfortable entry into
Ramsgate and after a short radio conversation with Ramsgate
Marina we secured a nice sheltered berth in the West side of the
Royal Harbour. Ramsgate is extremely busy at this time of
year and on both occasions we have needed assistance from the
marina staff to find a berth!
A nice healthy meal, well
chippy again actually, we settled down for the night with a plan
of fuelling at 0700hrs and then heading North to Lowestoft.
